Reconnecting With Old Friends

As I mentioned before, we have been fairly private. Since we have been married we have mainly spent time with our family, very close friends, or by ourselves. Yesterday, we decided to stop by my friend’s parents house in a rural area nearby. I have been friends with their sons since junior high.

Their youngest son, we’ll call him Mark, has joined the military, married and had a daughter since I last saw him. I didn’t get to see him though. I talked with his older brother, we’ll call him Matthew, and his Dad, we’ll call Sam. Matthew’s son, Ernie, lets say, is now 3 years old. We had seen him once, after he was born, when we attended Matthew’s birthday party 3 years ago. Ernie has grown and is a smart kid. I heard that he has already figured out how to open child safety locks, child proof bottles and other things he shouldn’t get into. He told my son, Tyler not to get dirty while they played at a sand table. Tyler was heavily into the play time activities.

I asked them to let Mark know that we had stopped by and wanted to see how they were doing. Mark’s wife, we’ll call her Sylvia, gave birth to a baby girl, I’ll call Chloe about 2 months ago. Mark was able to come home and see his baby just after she was born. It was funny to hear that they got married and pregnant after Mark finished boot camp, before he was shipped off to Kosovo. He had a few days to get down to business … guess he got things done. Hehe.

My wife and I are both surprised that he decided to join the military. He is 29, a few days older than I am. We had talked about joining the military when we finished High School as a last resort. That was 11 years ago. I guess he just needed some serious time to think about it. We just hope that he remains safe and comes home safely.

It was a pleasure to see them again and we are planning on having a get together sometime soon at our place. We’ll barbeque and enjoy the pool, hopefully the weather will cooperate and it won’t be too hot. I hate the heat and have always said that I’d rather freeze to death than burn.
